- About the Isomura Brothers

The Isomura Brothers, consisting of Kent Isomura (Piano) and Shauno Isomura (Violin) are a New Zealand born and raised classical duo.
Together and individually over the years, the brothers have quickly gained international attention through tours and invitations for performances all over the globe in countries including USA, Italy, Germany, Malta, Austria, Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, and have appeared in festivals including the Heifetz International Music Institute, Mendelssohn International Music Festival and the International Akaroa Music Festival. They have also made collaborations with numerous composers such as Elena Kats-Chernin (AUS), Missy Mazzoli (USA), Gao Ping (CHN), Benyamin Nuss (GER). World premiere's by Yao Chen (CHN), Toshiaki Komori (JP), Xu Tang (NZ) and have presented New Zealand Premieres by Japanese composers Yasushi Akutagawa, Akira Ifukube, Takayuki Hattori, and Kunimitsu Takeuchi.

In recent years, the brothers have been performing music for the cause of charity. The most significant event being the extensive ‘Tsunami Violin Project’ involving both Japan and New Zealand.

In 2017, the brothers embarked on a national concert tour with the 'Tsunami Violin' - a violin made by Muneyuki Nakazawa in remembrance of the deceased and with aspiration of hope for the survivors of the 2011 Japan Earthquake & Tsunami. The tour was held in Wellington, Christchurch and a full house concert in the Auckland Town Hall Concert Chamber. The instrument was previously performed by violinists including Ivry Gitlis, Gerard Poulet, and Emiri Miyamoto and was for the very first time brought to and performed in New Zealand by the Isomura Brothers. The instrument was returned to Japan at the conclusion of the tour, to be passed onto the next violinist to spread the prayers of hopes across the globe.

In April 2018, the Isomura Brothers gave multiple recitals during their Japan Tour spanning from Tokyo, Okayama, Naoshima, Yamada-machi up to Hokkaido - collecting a full house concert across all venues. The recital in Okayama was presented in collaboration with the concert-mistress of the Okayama Philharmonic Orchestra Mrs.Hiroko Kondo and featured the World Premiere of emerging New Zealand Chinese composer Xu Tang’s brand new work. The brothers later visited the Tohoku Region and performed for the people who suffered during the devastating 2011 Japan Earthquake & Tsunami.

In 2019, they will be embarking on a concert tour in China, Invited by the Capital Normal University of Beijing and the South Normal University of Guangzhou.
