James Robinson is showing works recently awarded NZ poet laureate David Eggleton wrote sonnets for in 2015, which were in the volume Edgeland and poems poems, which James Robinsons work is also illustrating and on the cover.
These works and a major new surreal mural called Edgelnad Teleprompter Incantation are on show to the public at James Open Studio in Port Chalmers next to the Town Hall, 11 Grey Street.
James Robinson is showing a collection of self curated paintings and drawings that have a resonance with the image rich and playful prose around globalism, and self, and place.
James has been a Eggleton fan for some time first seeing him in the '90s in a tour called Poetry Demon... and exemplifies for James the Maverick iconoclastic beat poet wit and dexterity of social absudist transformation of a global New Zealand. These themes as visual artist are concurrent to James' personal, expressionistic, experimental practice, and he is pleased to be keeping a independent tradition alive of poet artist response.
