The Department of Conservation Kauaeranga Visitor Centre is again hosting the Summer Fun programme these holidays. The wide range of activities on offer provides a wonderful opportunity to get involved with nature, learn, and enjoy awesome activities.

The full programme is available on Facebook.

Running from 27th December through to the Big Summer Fun Festival Day on the 11th January, there are activities taking place every day of the week.

Bookings are essential for all activities.

The programme will have a wide range of events including:
- learning the art of kauri gum polishing
- panning for gold
- magical Kiwi Dundee Twilight walk
- live gecko encounters, providing a rare and special chance to get up close and personal with our very beautiful and secretive natives
- Search and Rescue teaching skills for surviving in our great outdoors
- special guided forest walks for young children
- making a dream catcher for the new decade
- guided hikes with the Kauaeranga Valley Tramping Club
- joining the ranger to make wildlife masks
- School of Mines taking guided walks suitable for older children and adults to discover the ‘Treasures of the Earth’
- And much more

The Summer Fun events will conclude on January 11th with the ‘Big Festival Day’ which will include live Celtic music from Sean Kelly who is back from a winter of playing music in Prague. There will be fun competitions for everyone, giveaways, prizes, water games, and much more.
Bring the children up to get their face painted or have a go on the Amazing one day only zipline with Canyonz.

While the Summer Fun Festival only lasts for two fun-packed weeks, the Kauaeranga Valley is a wonderful place to visit at any time with great swimming holes and beautiful bush walks. Fascinating information, games and activities are available at the Visitor Centre.

Enquiries are welcome by calling the DOC Kauaeranga Visitor Centre on 07 8679080.

Most activities are by gold coin donation with all funds raised going to support Kiwi on the Coromandel.
