Kingsley Melhuish and Chris Orange’s musical paths have criss-crossed over the years and finally they have teamed up this summer to perform their original repertoire featuring at Oneroa’s Aperitivo this month.
Well known for his trumpet, tuba and the conch shell performance Melhuish jumps in at the other end of the spectrum as singer and songwriter. His broad sound palette has seen him perform with the Violent Femmes, Tim Finn, Don McGlashan and more recently Alargo.
Waihekean bassist and vocalist Chris Orange is a founding member of Auckland punk bands The Terrorways and The Features, and also a renowned collaborator with pivotal artists such as Mahinarangi Tocker and Billy TK Senior.
Melhuish says this will be their second outing on Waiheke and so far the response has been effusive and warm. ‘People come up to me surprised about my singing. I’ve been getting a few speeches about hiding my light under a bush… but timing is everything.’
Melhuish will release his first solo album in late summer.
