Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.
This course is running once in 2019 on Saturday 19 June 10 AM - 4 PM.
Tutor: Kathy Skellern
Learn to make whimsical, stunning or functional jewellery by knitting with coloured wire and adding beads and other decorative findings.
Knitting with wire is quite different to knitting with wool- knitted wire naturally looks uneven and hand-made and that's the look we're going for. You certainly don't need to be an expert knitter - ability to use the most basic stitches will be sufficient.
Expected learning outcomes:
- Learn about the different gauges of wire and which gauge is best for which project
- Choosing the best beads for a project
- Casting on stitches using wire
- Incorporating beads and other findings to your knitting
- Finishing off and adding a clasp
Who should attend? Those with basic knitting ability wanting to use their creativity to make a nice gift for a special friend or themselves.
Materials are included in this course fee. If you have specific beads or other baubles you wish to include in your piece, bring these along.
Our mission is to provide quality affordable and accessible lifelong learning opportunities for our community.
