Thanks to our friends at REAP, we are able to run another inspirational Kokomai programme for Wairarapa school children. Dare to dream... you are the artists, musicians, acrobats, dancers and writers of Aotearoa’s future – Jo Beetham, Chair Wairarapa Arts Festival Trust

Wairarapa schools will have received information about what’s on offer and are likely to be organising workshops/events for students to attend. All bookings to come via schools only and to be sent to: schools@reapwairarapa.nz

Instruments of The Orchestra Wairarapa College
An interactive session run by the Year 12 Music Class at Wairarapa College and Head of Music, Belinda Carey. Come and listen to a wide variety of instruments played by some fabulous young musicians. Students invited to play the instruments at the end of the concert.

Connecting Music Jonáš Koukl
Jonáš Koukl is a multi-instrumentalist and musician from the Czech Republic, now based in the Wairarapa. The Connecting Music event will be an interactive music workshop to bring together up to 800 people from different generations. There are spaces for 250 school children to come along and use instruments or use body percussion to take part in this intergenerational interactive music event.

Girls for Steam Amelia Lockley
These workshops consist of two exciting learning experiences both on and off the computer. Students will learn about 3D modelling with Tinkercad. They’ll have fun creating artworks, learning new skills and some tricks. The second activity will be with circuits. Once again students will be creating artworks, but this time making them light up with LEDs!

Photography Lucy Cooper
Students will learn how to get photographs to tell a story. They will pick a theme or idea and take a range of photos to express or explore it. Props will be provided to help get them thinking. Students will then pick their favourite 3 photos and spend time editing them. Photos will be printed and displayed at Aratoi.

Flight of The Imagination Wairarapa Artist – Katie Gracie
Students will be guided around Aratoi to view the exhibition '50/fifty: 50 Years of Aratoi'. They’ll view art works and be inspired by works from acclaimed artists including Colin McCahon and Robin White; from Taonga Māori to botanical sketches and contemporary art to photographs of early settlement. Then local artist Katie Gracie will engage the students to let their imagination take flight to create a huia bird in the style of their choosing.

Speed Date an Author New Zealand Book Council
The New Zealand Book Council Te Kaunihera Pukapuka o Aotearoa is coming back to the Wairarapa and invites you to select students from Years 5-7 to take part in ‘Speed Date an Author’. Students will work closely with every writer and/or illustrator.

Writers In Schools New Zealand Book Council
The New Zealand Book Council Writers in Schools Programme is available for schools to link into during Kokomai. New Zealand authors will be available to run sessions in your school. To book an author session at your school, please contact schools@reapwairarapa.nz.
