Kristallnacht Remembrance Concert – b’yachad

Presented by the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand in partnership with Te Kōki, the New Zealand School of Music - Victoria University of Wellington.

Join us for a unique performance of classical music featuring New Zealand acclaimed artists.

Kristallnacht concert commemorates the night of broken glass – when Jewish synagogues, shops, and homes were attacked and destroyed in Germany 1938. This year, for the first time, the Kristallnacht commemorative concert will take place in the beautiful Beth El Synagogue.

We will remember the destruction by uniting in Wellington’s oldest house of Jewish prayer.

Gathering in the synagogue – a house of worship – is also an act of defiance against the hatred and evil of 15 March. We will overcome hatred by standing together, b’yachad.

The programme for the evening is a moving and dynamic line up of performances featuring the music of dance and song, and including the award-winning Sixteen Strings Quartet, who won first prize in the NZCT national Chamber Music Contest.

The programme includes cabaret and jazz music as well the NZ premiere of the Weinberg Piano Trio performed by Te Kōki Trio. The New Zealand String Quartet will be joined by Ruby Sully on the taonga puoro, playing Gareth Farr’s extraordinary He Poroporoaki, and Margaret Medlyn will sing the beautiful Marietta’s Song by Erich Korngold.

Light food is included in the ticket price, as well as an interactive exhibition.
