Celebrating women and women in music, Ladies on Tables brings together a feast of extraordinary musical talent with four of Auckland’s top female deejays performing free over two days in three Auckland locations – Ellen Melville Centre, Te Atatu Peninsula and New Lynn Community Centres.

Tina Turntables and Sandy Mill will perform at Te Atatu Peninsula Community Centre from midday – 3pm on Thursday 7 March and in the city at Ellen Melville Centre on Friday 8 March.

Also performing on the same days at the same times are Miss Dom and Sister Rosa who will appear at Ellen Melville Centre and New Lynn Community Centre.

Another free event for International Women’s Day at Ellen Melville Centre is a celebration of the achievements of women, hosted by Zonta with guest speaker Adriana Christie.

The following week the Auckland Women’s Centre and Ellen Melville Centre present a free workshop on Campaigning & Activism, with guest speaker Lizzy Marvelly.

About:
Tina Turntables has been spinning tunes for nearly 10 years. She’s co-hosted 95bFM’s Sunday show Back On The Goodfoot and specializes in a mixed gumbo of rhythm & blues, soul, blues, funk, disco, garage and rock n roll spiced up with alternative, punk, rock, pop and hip-hop. She’s deejayed after parties for The Rolling Stones, as well as opening for The Black Keys, Wanda Jackson and Prince

Sandy Mill is an internationally recognised vocalist, collaborator and songwriter of Ngati Porou descent. She has worked with The Bellbirds, The Basement Jaxx, Neil Finn, Pitch Black, Placebo, Dick Johnson, Boy George and many more. Sandy performs with SJD, fronts multi-national band New Telepathics and is a regular deejay at various events.

Miss Dom AKA Dom Nola, is an Auckland based vinyl deejay and an avid vinyl record collector who curates music for venues and public spaces. In a previous life Dom was a former Programme Director and Music Director at Auckland radio station 95bFM and currently co-hosts their Jazz Show.

Sister Rosa was named after the freedom fighter Sister Rosa Parks. Sister Rosa is passionate about women having a voice behind the turntables and is inspired by playing cool music to people and her contribution as a female deejay. Her sets include vintage soul, funk and classic hip-hop selections.

Lizzie Marvelly is a singer/songwriter and political commentator. She first achieved success as a classical crossover vocalist before beginning a pop career and writes for the New Zealand Herald, discussing feminist issues.

Adriana Christie was elected to the Waitematā Local Board in 2016 and is advocate for more human-centric design decisions based on empathy and standing for those with disabilities, children, elderly, as well as the environment. She is passionate about community development and social entrepreneurship, is a board member of Social Enterprise Auckland, a co-owner of The Pallet Kingdom and a student at AUT University.
