Come join us for an evening of capoeira with lots of axé and good vibes!
A lecture on capoeira as a medium for social integration with speakers Mestre Emílio and Mestre Bira will be followed by a capoeira demonstration, or “roda de capoeira”.
Mestre Emílio began his career in capoeira at an early age and has been practicing for 32 years. He draws influences from different capoeira groups and styles, and currently presides the Arte E Raça Group, with 3,600 associates across many Brazilian states, as well as Portugal and Ireland. Mestre Emílio has earned a number of titles, including the Champion title of the Brazilian Capoeira League.
Mestre Bira is renowned for his presence in Wellington and his active work in promoting Capoeira in New Zealand. He is the coordinator of Capoeira Resistência Group, which will be performing after the lecture.
