Linda Rawlings' paintings are on display in the foyer of Creative Arts Napier for the month of May.

After many years of living in Napier, Linda Rawlings retired to Marton and soon after joined the Feilding Art Group. She began painting about 9 years ago with the group of beginner and fully fledged artists, painting all manner of subjects.

Linda’s preferred subject matter is, – the sea, the sky, the sand, and yachts. She is happy to try any subject and likes to copy the Great Masters as ‘they know what they are doing’ and she can practice and progress her skills. Linda is motivated by learning and doing better. She keeps a favourite exhibited painting of the Egyptian Desert on her bedroom wall for inspiration.

Linda has since moved to Foxton Beach and now attends the Levin Art Group.

‘I like to use oils and usually first coat with acrylics, and one day I was painting a rough sea and was really getting into it when I realized I felt sea sick. I did laugh when I realized I’d been sniffing too much oil. Won’t do that again! Must have good air flow.’

Linda has had a colourful life. After working for a Tobacco company in England she moved to Napier about 47 years ago and worked at the Rothmans factory in Ahuriri. She also worked on Stokes ward at Napier Hospital for 7 years. In between times there were a few lengthy trips back to the UK to spend time with her Mum. She now has 2 children of her own (neither of whom paint).

Linda has painted sporadically over the years and is now enjoying time to herself and getting lost in her paintings. When not painting, Vic likes to garden and enjoys companion visiting with ladies older than herself.

She says of her art works ‘Please enjoy my paintings, you may not like my style or subject but if they make you smile, then I’ve won’.

Join Linda and her friends to celebrate the opening of her exhibition on Friday 10 May, 5-7pm. All welcome!
