Friends of Te Papa

The Friends of Te Papa had the wonderful opportunity of seeing Elizabeth Thomson’s exhibition entitled My Titirangi Years at PageBlackie Gallery last year. This was greatly enjoyed by everyone. We now have the opportunity of visiting Elizabeth’s studio in Newtown. This will be a real treat.

Elizabeth Thomson is one of New Zealand’s leading artists, and has for three decades produced works of technical virtuosity that consider interplay between art and forms of natural science.

Elizabeth is a self-proclaimed interdisciplinary and conceptual artist and works with a range of sculpture, painting and photography. Her approach can be at times described as surrealist, while at others she is an isolated observer of the esoteric and the remote.

Elizabeth graduated with Master of Fine Arts with First Class Honours from Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland, in 1988. She moved to Wellington in 1991, and works from her studio in Newtown. She exhibits in galleries overseas and widely throughout New Zealand, with her relief sculptures and prints being held in major public and private collections here and abroad.

This will be an exciting and informative afternoon and we look forward to having you join us.

Elizabeth’s studio is at 307 Mansfield Street, Newtown. Mansfield Street leads to Newtown Park and the Wgtn Zoo. Street parking is available in the vicinity and bus route 23 from the Railway Station to Wgtn Zoo operates hourly. You will need to check the bus timetable for departure times.

With this art visit being the first of the year, we invite Friends to bring a friend for the same price. Numbers are limited, so we look forward to your early reply.
