This two-day, hands-on workshop is for all levels of ability and is taught at The Warren, a community workshop on Cross Street, behind Karangahape Road.
We will progress from an introductory level, enabling complete beginners to get a great grounding, through techniques that will get progressively more sophisticated, allowing practicing woodworkers at all levels to extend their planing skills and understanding.
A plane for you to work with will be provided, but you can bring your own along if you prefer.
What you will learn:
- The types of metal planes and their uses
- Plane parts, how to dismantle, clean and reassemble metal planes
- Blade types and purposes
- Types of sharpening stones
- How to grind and sharpen blades
- How to plane straight and true edges, surfaces and ends
- How to tweak and tune planes to improve performance
