Matala-Anzac “Fonuapuli-Missing Grave” lest we forget.
Matala-ANZAC 2019 will feature a parade march, the story of World War I, Military guest speakers, Tongan: poetry, music and dance. Matala will present this event for the second time running with the support of the New Zealand Defence Force. Matala-Anzac is the first-ever Anzac day civic service in New Zealand led by members of the Tongan community. It is an honour to host this significant event for the wider communities.
The vision of this event is to create a platform in honour of our Tongan soldiers who fought in World War I, many of whom never returned home to Tonga. It is an opportunity for our Tongan community to gather together to raise the awareness of Anzac day through Tongan arts and culture. Please join us for the formal ceremony which will assemble at the Walter Massey Park(Corner of Massey Road and Hain Ave) Mangere East, Auckland, New Zealand.
10:00AM-11:00AM: Anzac day commemoration prayer service by former NZSAS veteran Rev. Maka 'Ilavalu Ta'ufo'ou from USA.
11:00AM-5:00PM: Anzac fun day with entertainment showcasing Tongan arts & culture, bouncy castle & slide, coloring books & pens provided for kids & Tongan style food stalls.
