At this special time of year we see Matariki rise before dawn and it is a chance to reflect on the past and look to the future. Space Place are celebrating this important time of year with a special indoor evening event.

We invite you and your whānau into the warm to share kai, storytelling with Timotimo, waiata and the beautiful sounds of the taonga pūoro with Shearwater Drift, and we can show you the different Māori constellations in our skies inside the planetarium dome theatre.

Visit from 5pm to capture storytime and craft, or come later when the exhibition space is transformed with waiata from our line up of DJs. Stay as long as you like, enjoying the different experiences and celebrations of Matariki throughout Space Place with us and others.

Kai will be after 6-6.30pm and we offer soup and bread as part of our normal entry ticket so we can all eat together, however if you would like a special dinner of hangi we can arrange it for ticket holders who pre-order before Wednesday 19 June. Hangi is an additional $15 per person.

Because this Matariki celebration is indoors you can guarantee it will go ahead so can plan ahead. It is a short walk from the top of the Cable Car and paid parking is available at the top by the Cable Top Café. Disability Parking is available in front of Space Place via Salamanca Road.

Event Prices:
Adult $12.50
Senior/student $10
Child (4-16 years) $8

Under four years: free
Family (two adults and up to three children) $39
