This thought provoking exhibition features works inspired by the effects of climate change on the Arctic region.
Clare Plug is a local award-winning textile artist with a national and international reputation. A zoology graduate from Massey University who briefly taught high school science, Clare in recent years has regularly exhibited her contemporary quilts here and overseas. She also has been featured in numerous publications. Her artworks draw from her lifelong passion for nature and the environment and it follows themes relating to landscape.
In 2006 Clare worked as an Artist in Residence, travelling to and living with scientists in Antarctica. The theme for her Antarctica project was ‘layers of protection’ and resulted in an exhibition to highlight the impact that snow and ice melting in Antarctica has on the rest of the world.
Come and view Clare’s work, on display for the month of April, and pause to think about the message she conveys.
