Michael Cooper Photography and Book Exhibition

Books and prints are coming to Britomart in November and December, with Hedleys Books and Karen Walker teaming up to present a unique concept book store in Tyler Street.

A family-run business based in Masterton, Hedleys is also a boutique publisher, and will be using the Britomart pop-up for the global release of the final 600 copies of the limited-edition book Blinds & Shutters by Michael Cooper, published by Genesis Publications Ltd. (UK) and Hedleys Books. The pop-up space is on the ground floor of the Seafarers Building and will be tailor-made for Christmas shoppers, featuring a curated selection of beautiful books, music ,prints and excellent holiday reading for the summer period.

Hedleys Books’ own forays into publishing are always special, none more so than the limited-edition Blinds & Shutters being showcased during the month of November in the pop-up, in both book and print form (as well as in a small exhibition in the Atrium on Takutai).

Michael Cooper is most famous for being the photographer of the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover. He was a close friend of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and thus everyone who was drawn to them, and his photographs capture the essence of the 1960s.

December will see the pop-up’s offering extend to a wider story of 100 titles curated by David Hedley and Karen Walker, with genres reaching across contemporary and classic fiction, memoir, non-fiction, art, design and childrens. As with the ongoing Hedleys x Karen Walker book edit at Playpark by Karen Walker in Newmarket, all titles are current and all-time favourites for David and Karen, who work closely to select the books that most excite them.
