Do You Want to.

Stand out in the workplace and create influence in business cannot be achieved by just showing up to work on time and getting the job done!

As a migrant, you probably have experienced more insecure, self-doubting or powerless feeling when climbing your career ladder. That is exactly why we kick off the “Migrant Career Advancement” workshop series from Jun 18th, aiming to help migrants strengthen their “career muscles” in order to conquer mindset roadblocks and create meaningful growth.

Who is coming to our first workshop and what are we talking about?

- Dr James Sun: Professor at the University of Auckland School of Business. He has been a visiting scholar in many universities worldwide including the Harvard University in the United States, Cambridge University in the United Kingdom, University of New South Wales in Australia and the University of Toronto in Canada.

The topic he will cover: How to build a winning career strategy? What is your understanding about the word “strategy”? Do you spend a lot of time to strategize your career and make every move carefully? How could you be more agile about your career planning in this VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity) world?

- Shelley Huang: Internationally Certified Life and Career Coach; A Former War Correspondent; Multi-lingual and Multi-cultural Media Presenter and Producer; 2011 Deloitte Chinese Business Figures Award; A finalist in the 2016 Women of Influence Award (Diversity Category); A Passionate Volunteer for YMCA, Age Concern and Red Cross. Shelley is the initiator of the “Migrant Career Advancement” workshop series and she will be the main facilitator in each workshop with different guest speakers.
The topic she will cover: How to create a sounding result during job interviews, pay/promotion negotiations and clients meetings? Are those communications critical in your career success? Then you better overcome any emotional nervousness and focus on what is effective. That is why we don’t teach but we do it with you in the workshop. Don’t get uncomfortable if you were asked to present your communication because that is the only way you can become comfortable with your communication!

- Special guest Frank Chou: Producer and actor of Mahua Improv New Zealand. “Mahua Improv” is the first improvisation performance brand in China. The improv talents use free dialogue, physical expression and performance skills to create unique improvised comedy by organizing impromptu scenes, characters, and plots, based on the keywords given by the audience.
The games he will play with you will inspire you to think how to use improv skills to release pressure, express themselves, and nurture creativity at work or in life?

Cost?
We believe there are tremendous value in the workshop that we cannot put a price on, so we tend to provide it for free. However, signing up a free workshop doesn’t necessarily mean attending, so we have set up a very small fee of $5+Eventfinda fee which you pay for your own commitment in career advancement. If you are a community organisation who would like to attend as a group, please email us (info@transformationaljourneys.me) and you might be able to come free!

Registration?
Clicking “YES” on Meetup or Facebook doesn’t guarantee your place and you won't know which room to go to in Ellen Melville Centre on the night. Signing up on Eventfinda will secure your spot for the workshop, provide you all the details and also reserve the time on your calendar, therefore you are 100% set for the first step of your career advancement!

Volunteers:
We will need 5-6 people as volunteers for the workshop. If you are keen to help, we would love to hear from you (info@transformationaljourneys.me) and we will waive your ticket fee.
Looking forward to seeing you at 6pm on Jun 18th.
