Mini Celebrates Six Decades of New Zealand History
- Pop up exhibition will showcase MINI’s journey through New Zealand
- Archives have been curated by Donn Anderson, author of MINI Down Under
- Exhibition is open to the public Friday 22 and Saturday 23 November at the Glasshouse, Morningside

MINI is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a pop-up exhibition in Auckland this November. In collaboration with Donn Anderson, MINI fanatic and author of

MINI Down Under, MINI New Zealand will showcase some of the top MINI moments from New Zealand history through a two-day showcase held at Morningside’s Glasshouse on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 November.

Curated by Anderson, the exhibition will feature key archival pieces and moments from MINI’s journey through New Zealand, looking at everything from when it first landed in New Zealand to its electrified future with the MINI Cooper SE Hatch, due to launch next year.

A long time MINI fan, Anderson published MINI Down Under in 2009 which traced the history of the iconic car in New Zealand over the previous 50 years. He currently owns two MINIs: a 2006 MINI Cooper R50 and a 2009 MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works.

“MINI is not simply a car but a motoring icon that this year celebrates its 60th birthday in rude health,” says Anderson. “A long-time New Zealand favourite, this infectious little car embodies a special character and personality that captures people’s imaginations. A birthday worth celebrating, no less.”

On display will be a classic 1979 round-nose MINI alongside the newest MINI John Cooper Works, allowing MINI fans to see how far the car has come over its 60-year journey. Kindly loaned to the exhibition by owner Phil Kane, some Kiwis might recognise the classic car from several New Zealand movies and adverts.
