Celebrating our diverse multicultural city.

A partnership project to plant 800 native trees at Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park to celebrate our cities multicultural diversity.

You will need: Planting spade, gumboots, raincoat (just in case we go ahead rain or shine!), a drink bottle and lots of energy!

Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park is a partnership project with the University of Waikato, Waikato Institute of Technology (WINTEC),Tui 2000 Inc, Hamilton City Council, Hamilton Zoo, and are working with community groups to reconstruct forest types of the Waikato ecological area and peat lakes.

The reconstruction has started on existing farmland in 2004. Conservation volunteers, community groups and Friends of Waiwhakareke (FOW) to date have planted over 300,000 native plants. This is a 500 year project!

The group meets at the entrance to Waiwhakareke Natural Park, Brymer Road (opposite Hamilton Zoo). If late park and walk along tracks following 'Community Activity' signs.
