7.30pm at The Meteor Theatre: Promise and Promiscuity: A New Musical by Jane Austen and Penny Ashton

Waikato Museum and The Meteor Theatre, never the twain shall meet, you say? Well, that is a truth not universally acknowledged! We’ve teamed up to bring you an evening of cinematic couture and musical merriment, a collaboration that is cut above the rest with Promise and Promiscuity: A New Musical by Jane Austen and Penny Ashton and Cut! Costume and the Cinema.

The Meteor Theatre and Waikato Museum have joined forces to present a creative experience that’ll take you through the centuries. Start at Waikato Museum to enjoy a complimentary refreshment and an after-hours viewing of Cut! Costume and the Cinema, a dazzling exhibition showcasing world-class fashion and style as worn by some of Hollywood’s biggest names.

Having been up close and personal with the dress worn by Kate Winslet during the filming of Sense and Sensibility, take a leisurely stroll to The Meteor for a one-off performance of Promise and Promiscuity: A New Musical by Jane Austen and Penny Ashton.

An original work by Penny Ashton and winner of Best Performance in a Comedy, Auckland Fringe, Patron’s Pick, Winnipeg Fringe, and Best Theatre Week Three, Adelaide Fringe. Promise and Promiscuity is “Pride and Prejudice gone wild in the best way” (Rip it Up, Adelaide). A hilarious, one-woman show, in which Penny Ashton tackles all of Austen’s characters with song, dance and appalling cross-stitching. This is the perfect night out for avid Austen readers, textile disciples, and film aficionados!
