2018/2019 National Concerto Competition Final.

The National Concerto Competition is an annual musical competition for young people aged 25 years and under. This is the 52nd competition and 2018/2019 is for Instrumental competitors.

The competition has always been based in Christchurch, something the Trust is very proud of, and being a National competition it attracts and encourages competitors from all over New Zealand.

The competition has built a strong national reputation by providing young people with an opportunity of upskilling their music performances and many competitors see the competition as a “stepping stone” and have gone onto prominent careers in the music industry both nationally and internationally.

In December 2018 the Preliminaries and Semi-Finals were held and from these 3 Finalists were chosen for the Final on Saturday 23rd March 2019, 7.30 p.m. at the Aurora Centre Burnside High School. We are fortunate this year to have a Finalist from Christchurch!

The finalists are:
- Isabella Gregory (Christchurch) playing “Flute Concerto” by Ibert
- Hyein Kim (Hamilton) playing “Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33 (cello)” by Tchaikovsky
- Diane Huh (Auckland) playing “Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 47” by Sibelius

The 3 Finalists will be accompanied by the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Kay.

This competition is about young people, amazing musicians and challenging musical works - come along and show your support and be wowed!
