UC Music in conjunction with The Piano: Centre for Music and the Arts are delighted to present the renowned French percussion trio, SR9 Trio, in concert!
Alors, on danse? Concert for 3 marimbas
This concert explores the theme of the dance at different times.
The programme includes a Baroque suite (Forqueray, Couperin, Rameau, Purcell, Scarlatti, Handel, & Bach), folk dances from Debussy, Bartók, Borodine & Manuel De Falla, and ends with Narnchygäer by François Tashdjian, a work about a three head devil who makes his victims dance to death.

SR9 Trio (short for " Square Root of 9 ") was founded in 2010 by Paul Changarnier, Nicolas Cousin and Alexandre Esperet, who all earned First Prizes in the percussion class of the Lyons National Music Conservatory. SR9 Trio won Luxembourg International Competition (First Prize, Press Prize and Audience Prize) in 2012, as well as the french FNAPEC 2012 Competition. SR9 Trio is invited to perform at the Pasic 2017 in Indianapolis (USA).
This group promotes a creative vision of percussions with transcriptions for 3 marimbas of emblematic scores (Bach, Mendelssohn, Ravel, Stravinsky). This group also participates actively in the evolution of the contemporary repertoire of percussion through commissioning works to young composers such as François Tashdjian, Florent Caron-Darras and Balint Karosi.
SR9 Trio gave more than 150 concerts in places such as Collège des Bernardins (Paris-France), Parc Floral de Paris (France), Chapelle de la Trinité (Lyons-France), Opera de Lyon (France), Festival de la Chaise-Dieu (France), Festival de Menton (France), Festival Radio France Montpellier Occitanie, the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art (USA), St Peter’s Church in New York (USA), Theaterhaus in Stuttgart (G), the MIM in Brussels (B), Muziekgebouw in Eindhoven (NL), Drumworld Festival in Thorn (NL).
SR9 Trio released their first CD entitled « Bach with marimba « in 2015 (Naïve Label). Their second CD , Alors, on danse? has been released in spring 2018.
The trio has performed several times on the Radio for shows such as(« Carrefour de Lodéon « and « Génération Jeunes interprètes on France Musique and has been praised by critics (Télérama, Le Monde, Le Figaro, France 3 Télévision, Prestoclassical UK, DeutchlandRadio…). In August 2017, SR9 Trio has participated to the TV Show Zygel Academy.
SR9 Trio is invited to give Master Class in following places: Conservatory of Reims (France), University of Dijon (France), Conservatory of Esch sur Alzette (Luxembourg), Boston Conservatory (USA), Juillard School of New York (USA) and New York University (USA).
SR9 Trio is sponsored by ADAMS percussion, RESTA-JAY percussions, the Fondation Banque Populaire and regularly receives assistance from SPEDIDAM, Bureau Export, Institut Français and ADAMI.
