We live in a complex world full of moral dilemmas. Our survival would seem to be ultimately connected to understanding and respecting all the people who inhabit our world. Reading novels and stories by and about different people from different places and cultures is a great way to build our empathy and understanding of humankind.

Each session will be devoted to a book written by someone of a different nationality, showing a range of different perspectives of our world. The books we will study are: Arrow of God by Chinua Achebe (Africa The Congo), The Bonesetter’s Daughter by Amy Tan (China) The Hungry Tide by Amitiv Ghosh Bengal India) and Beloved by Toni Morrison (African American).

Linda Hart is an art historian, teacher and writer herself with a deep love of literature.
