NZ Flax - Harakeke is a great natural resource and the most enduring of all New Zealand native plants.
From plant to product, in this workshop you will learn the skill of weaving with NZ Flax - Harakeke.
This workshop will include the techniques of weaving and plaiting along with being taught the cultural customs of working within the sustainable practices of tikanga and the values toi raranga (the protocols of flax cutting and handling which surrounds this time honoured craft).
Whatever your level of weaving experience, this workshop will further your weaving skills. For intermediate weavers we will add to your skill base to develop your weaving to the level you aspire to.
Day One is an Introduction to Harakeke - NZ Flax which is great for beginners or to refresh your harakeke weaving skills.
Day Two will build on your skills to create the larger basket, you will leave with a fully functioning shopping bag.
