NZTrio’s 2019 series is all Empires and Superpowers - the fundamental forces that shape our land, our population, our society.
The first in the series, Tectonic Shift, explores the dynamics of Cook’s arrival in Aotearoa, contrasting the music of his place and time with the music of the Māori explorers who navigated the waters before him.
It examines the extraordinary social, cultural and political transformation of Aotearoa by contrasting Taonga Pūoro, contemporary NZ music and traditional and contemporary repertoire from the UK, and then zooms out to view the global landscape, with music from the Cold War Superpowers.
