A weaboo baker, a dysfunctional Pacific family, a gay rugby player and a k-pop dance group all come together to form the perfect recipe for a beautiful disaster that explores love, language and loss.

Odd Daphne is an original community stage play supported by The Mental Health Foundation and Auckland Council that challenges traditional Pacific attitudes towards mental wellness. It gives insight into depression and suicide awareness within a contemporary Pacific context with the hope of starting important conversations within our families.

The Odd Daphne cast and crew (Odd Family) are a mix of theatre practitioners, filmmakers, community leaders, mental health nurses as well as family and friends who are supporters of the cause. The show is not produced by an established theatre company or collective but a community of believers. In saying this, despite being a mixed bag of experiences we want to tell a quality story that connects to various communities. We describe our style of theatre as "whanau" theatre - where families are healed in the creative process of telling stories safely.

Our hope is that Odd Daphne will be a breakthrough for theatre that touches lives through its artistic flair and personal messaging. This piece of work is our contribution towards a National issue that can be resolved through small needed conversations within our families.

From our Odd Family to yours - we welcome you and look forward to sharing our space
