Off the Page: An Evening With Pip Adam and Rachael King

Join us for an evening with award winning writers Pip Adam and Rachael King in conversation with Thom Conroy.

Pip Adam has published a collection of short stories, Everything We Hoped For (VUP, 2010) and two novels, I’m Working on a Building(VUP, 2013) and The New Animals (VUP, 2017). The New Animals won New Zealand's top fiction prize in 2018, the Acorn Foundation Prize for Fiction.

Her work has appeared in literary journals and anthologies in New Zealand and overseas. In 2012 Pip received an Arts Foundation of New Zealand New Generation Award and her first book. Everything We Hoped For won the NZ Post Best First Book award in 2011.

Pip facilitates writing workshops in universities and other settings including with people affected by crime in prisons and communities. Pip makes the Better off Read podcast where she talks with authors about writing and reading.

Rachael King is a novelist and short story writer. She gained a Masters in Creative Writing from Victoria University in 2001 and has worked in television and radio. Her first novel, The Sound of Butterflies, has been published in nine countries, including Greece and Russia.

It won the NZSA Hubert Church Best First Book Award for Fiction at the 2007 Montana New Zealand Book Awards, (now known as the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards). King has since published two more novels – Magpie Hall in 2009, and Red Rocks in 2013.

Rachael King took up the role of Literary Director of The Christchurch Writers’ Festival in 2013. She appeared at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, 2017, talking about Red Rocks in the session Migrating Mythologies, alongside Scottish children’s writer Lari Don.
