Walk the red carpet at ‘Opera Takes the Oscars’ on Saturday 2 March and enjoy a night of musical winners, capturing golden moments of the silver screen.

Remember that wonderful scene in the courtyard in ‘Shawshank Redemption’, or the emotional scenes at the opera with Cher and Nick Cage in ‘Moonstruck’ or Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in ‘Pretty Woman’? Come and experience all the glory and emotion of the famous tracks from the silver screen.

Opera takes the Oscars, a gala concert, will feature live performances by a company of Auckland’s amazing vocal talent, presenting some of the most famous and well-loved songs, arias and choruses from winning and nominated movies including A Room with a View, Les Miserables, Quantam of Solace, Amadeus, Pretty Woman, Moonstruck, Shawshank Redemption, Rogue Nation: Mission Impossible, The Favourite and more.

The programme includes excerpts from La Traviata, Gilbert and Sullivan, The Marriage of Figaro, Tales of Hoffman, La Bohème and Wizard of Oz to name a few. Musical theatre and opera exist in harmony in this uplifting selection of memorable musical moments in film. While not all scenes selected belong to Oscar winning movies, the music is certainly worthy of a golden award for providing the best emotional background to these poignant movie moments.

We invite the audience to come along dressed up in their finery - gowns, suits and formal attire – enter on the red carpet and enjoy the music of the night in true Hollywood style!
