The Opunake Lions Mountain to Sea Bike Ride starts at the top of the Arawhata Road Opunake and finishes at the Opunake Beach on Taranaki Anniversary Weekend Sunday March 10th.
It is a mainly a fun ride with a race option for those more serious or competitive. The ride is approximately 35 km long predominantly downhill.
For younger or less fit participants there are a number of places where riders can enter or exit adjacent to roads.
Approximately 80% of the ride is on farm tracks, 10% on road and the balance on paddocks. The ride traverses 11 privately owned farms which are not open for riders at any other time of the year.
This year profits from the event go towards the development of a cycle path around Opunake.
Online registrations are now open. Early bird entry fees apply until March 1st with adults, kids and family entries available.
Participants can register anytime up until the day and even pay with cheque or cash on race day.
