“Our Town” is Thornton Wilder’s 1938 Pulitzer prize winning play which became America’s most produced play with over 4000 productions in the last decade alone.

“Our Town” is about the people living in the small fictional town of Grovers Corner, New Hampshire. This universal tale about what it means to be human is a relevant, entertaining and stirring play for townspeople of any age. Or in Thornton Wilder, the playwright's words :‘Choose the least important day of your life. It will be important enough’

With a multi-age cast played by the townspeople of Lyttelton itself, headed up by Tom Trevella in the title role and featuring a haunting soundtrack written and performed by violinist Anita Clarke, (Motte, Devilish Mary), this bold, contemporary take on a true classic is a powerful evening of theatre not to be missed.

LAF’s Creative Director Mike Friend explains “Everyone has a town they call their own. Everyone lives, falls in love. Some have families. We all die.” But Friend insists, “This play had to be adapted to be about our town. Not someone else’s town. So Peter Llewellyn and I have set it at the beginning of 20th century in Lyttelton. We hope this adaptation captures the beginnings of Lyttelton and its occupants”.

Ullyart, rising star from Hull in England, is returning to LAF through their artist exchange programme with East Riding Theatre to co-direct “Our Town” under Friend. Ullyart says “I am really excited about co-directing this wonderful play. It is a project close to my heart and a choice of drama very much tailored to Lyttelton”.
