Kia ora whānau,

We will be holding an open hui on the first Thursday of every month at the Newtown Community Centre, from 6pm!

Starting Thursday next week - the 7th of November.

These hui are for people who are interested in doing solidarity work with struggles affecting indigenous people. This will be a space to learn more about how to be in solidarity, to meet others, and to organise actions that centre Decolonisation and Re-indigenisation.

The replica Endeavour is currently sailing around the country. In solidarity with the Kia Mau kaupapa, we'll be discussing possible actions to respond to Cook's death ship entering Te Whanganui-a-Tara late next month.

Whether you're new to activism or have wisdom to share, are solo or repping a group - come share some kai and kōrero.

Pōneke Solidarity Alliance started organising together in January 2019 during Ōtaki Summer Camp, in response to Pania Newton’s call to protect Ihumātao. Supported by Peace Action Wellington in its early days, the group organised solidarity events for the Ihumātao campaign, including hosting SOUL and the whānau at a local marae, organising three demonstrations at Parliament, one teach-in at Fletchers, screen-printing and sending t-shirts and continuing local organising efforts to ensure that pressure remained on the government.

The Alliance continues to support Ihumātao, and have signaled a commitment to ongoing solidarity work with broader struggles affecting indigenous people.
