Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

This is a new course for 2019, tutored by experienced painter and teacher Eleshea D’Souza. It runs Saturday 25 May and Sunday 26 May 2019 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM both days.

Learn to paint a life-like close-up of a flower bloom in a step-by-step method.

You will learn techniques on colour mixing, under-painting, correct layering of oil paint, medium use, saturation, colour, contrast, brush techniques and much more. The under-painting layers will be in acrylic paint and the final layer in oil paint to get the most depth and realistic-looking painting. The outcome from the class will be a large oil painting that will be ready to hang from your wall to wow friends and family.

What to bring:
Your course fee includes a take-home kit including oil paints, brushes and medium. You should bring your own square stretched canvas minimum size 20 x 20 inches and no greater than 23 x 23 inches (or 50 x 50 cm to 60 x 60cm) to fit our easels.

Tutor Eleshea recommends Expression canvases with a 3/4 inch depth frame which you can buy at Gordon Harris. You'll also need to bring a few basic supplies from home (we'll email these to you).

Expected learning outcomes
We expect students will gain foundational knowledge about contrast, realism, depth of colour, mixing oil paints and a variety of brush techniques. You will also leave with your own completed floral canvas, and knowledge of how to recreate this at home.

Who should attend this course?
Absolute beginners to intermediate level painters. We also welcome experienced painters looking to get motivated to complete a painting in a short period of time.

Our mission is to provide quality affordable and accessible lifelong learning opportunities for our community.
