New Zealand’s most exciting, controversial, and secretive visual artist, Sylvia Torrance, has passed away. In the wake of this great loss to the creative community, Sylvia’s estranged children return home for the first time in years.
Together Blue, Roux, Mazarin and Violet must tidy up their mother’s studio while reconciling their strained relationships with each other, and the memories of the woman who bore them.
Pentimento: The Parting Gift of Sylvia Torrance is an encounter with maternal relationships and the impact a passed loved one leaves behind. It is an experiment in ensemble actor training and the devising of theatre from that basis.
