The Festival of Colour's People Library is a way to 'borrow' a range of clever people with expert knowledge of particular topics. Borrow Jan Kelly (The Poetry of Map-Making) for 20 minutes and enjoy her insight into the poetry of maps and why she likes them.

Jan spent 33 years as an academic cartographer, she is also a poet and sometimes finds little difference between writing words and making maps, they both hunt down the bones of meaning. Maps are part of the symbolic poetry of living, they are a way of coding the outside world so that we can see it. Maps are a code and the hardest codes to see can be those which we most take for granted. Come and talk about what you see on maps, and why you like them.
