Written and performed by members of the Palmerston North theatre community Perchance You Dream is a slightly sad, slightly sweet but above all honest story about what it means to support someone with emotional baggage, and what it means to have it yourself.
When nine year old Melanie Truss comes into foster care with her best friend a few footsteps behind, the adults around her trying to help are drawn into her woes, her cares, and her problems that she is desperately trying to avoid with escapism and hiding away. But as adults begin to waver in their devotion to Melanie, both her and her loves ones are forced to ask themselves how long can you play pretend?
Perchance You Dream costs only $10 for students and $15 for adults, and is showing at The Dark Room from 16th-20th July.
