John Hughes (Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink) gave us one of the greatest film comedies of our time with Planes Trains & Automobiles.

He took the the road film and boosted it with robust characters capable of generating believably-absurd cinematic situations.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles displays Hughes' powers at their height, as well as Steve Martin and John Candy in two of their very best roles.

The plot is simple. A man must struggle to travel home for Thanksgiving with an obnoxious slob of a shower-curtain-ring salesman as his only companion.

The greatness and pure genius of "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" is that while it is uproariously hilarious, it also reveals great hurt and truth - unlike any comedy you have ever seen before or since.

Steve Martin and John Candy don't just act; they embody themselves so deeply in their characters that it almost sets a standard for how comedic pairings should be.

John Candy died young at 44. “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” showcases his hidden comic genius. It’s a great comedy, and a deeply touching one, too.

Strange, how much poignancy creeps into this comedy, and only becomes stronger while we're laughing. Ira Newborn’s excellent score and additional music showcases just how musical of a director John Hughes was.

Presented lovingly in 35mm.
