Seminar Two – Lorraine Barry, Ara Adams-Tamatea, Joel Shadbolt, Bill Urale & Sam Verlinden.

The second in our series of professional development seminars provides knowledge from experts in all aspects of the New Zealand music scene. Gain valuable insights into the industry from respected artists and practitioners.

Seats are limited to this free event and registration is required via our Eventfinda listing.

Hear from Lorraine Barry, Lorraine Barry Management, who emigrated to New Zealand after 16 years spent in music marketing then as Director of International Marketing with Virgin Records in the UK. Upon arrival she became an artist manager for Dave Dobbyn. Her current roster includes Nomad, Avantadale Bowling Club, Mark Vanilau and Benny Tipene.

The talented musician Ara Adams-Tamatea will be part of the panel and share his story as bass player for L.A.B and working with talented musicians like Katchafire (2001-2007), Sons of Zion, Hollie Smith and many more.

Also part of L.A.B, Joel Shadbolt joins the seminar panel. Joel first studied music at Toi Ohomai in Rotorua and has gone from strength to strength. L.A.B. has become a fan favourite on the New Zealand live circuit – trademark grooves from the Kora brothers (Brad and Stu) combining with Ara’s reggae/dub experience, and Joel’s blues roots to create a sound entirely their own.

New Zealand hip hop recording artists Bill Urale, known by his stage name King Kapisi, will talk about his career. He was the first hip hop artist in New Zealand to receive the prestigious Silver Scroll Award at the APRA Awards for Songwriter of the Year for his single Reverse Resistance in 1999.

Artists and musician Sam Verlinden talks about his path in the New Zealand music scene and his connection to Auckland University of Technology. Sam is the manager of Manukau Choir who performed the Greatest Showman for Hugh Jackman when he came to Auckland recently.

The seminar will begin with each panellist talking about their background and journey in the music business. Following this a panel discussion will dive into the presenter's specific areas of expertise, fielding questions from the attendees before a final question and answer section with the audience.

The seminar will take place at the Energy Events Centre, Rotorua (Queen’s Drive, Government Gardens).
