Puuhoro oo mua, Puuhoro ki tua – 9th International Indigenous Artists Gathering.
Puuhoro oo mua, Puuhoro ki tua showcases over 100 indigenous artists from across the globe including Aotearoa New Zealand. It celebrates the diversity of contemporary indigenous art while highlighting the legacy of tradition present within contemporary practice.
It is presented in tandem with the 9th International Indigenous Artists Gathering being held at Tuurangawaewae Marae, Ngaaruawaahia, in November.
Puuhoro oo mua, Puuhoro ki tua, the name of this Gathering and this exhibition, refers to the puuhoro koowhaiwhai pattern that denotes speed, strength and dexterity. Like the currents of our Waikato river, the puuhoro flows with creative energy.
Waikato Museum Te Whare Taonga o Waikato has partnered with Te Aatinga, the Maaori Visual Arts Committee of Toi Maaori Aotearoa, to offer this exciting exhibition. It is sure to be a summer highlight for Kirikiriroa Hamilton and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Exhibition events will include artists’ talks, workshops and panel discussions.
Education programmes are available for this exhibition.
