Alfred Memelink Artspace Gallery is excited to present two sought after Wellington artists, Rachel Walker & Rika Nagahata for a collaborative exhibition featuring New Zealand Nature in ink and watercolours.

We welcome back Rachel after her sell out first exhibition with us. As well as presenting new original paintings in this exhibition, the exhibition will also be a great selection of her cheerful bright and popular limited edition prints. Rachel's pen and ink artworks draw on her awe of New Zealand nature, her drippy, energetic style is both loose in form and precisely detailed, capturing the attitude and beauty of our birds, sea creatures, reptiles and wild animals.

Rachel graduated at Massey University in Wellington where, since travelling, she has returned to live and paint. Her career to date has included a number of solo gallery exhibitions, creating cover art for magazines, school journals and albums, and a stint living and painting in rural France.

Rika was born in Japan but has been living in New Zealand since 2008. While in Japan she graduated from Osaka Art University majoring in printmaking. At University Rika experimented with different copper-plate printing techniques which has greatly influenced her art today.

Although Rika now uses ink and watercolours to create originals instead of prints, her exquisite patterns and fine lines reflect the intricate process of etching. This unique connection gives her works a special feel and presence that enables the viewer to get entranced and lost in Rika’s art.
