Join fashion and textiles expert Naomi Prowse for a ‘Re-Fashion Workshop’, over two consecutive Saturdays to coincide with her exhibition; ’59 and Counting; The Art of Altered Couture’.

The aim of these workshops is to Rescue, Re-fashion, and Re-use.

You will learn how to take an item of clothing and give it new life and individuality by remaking a Jacket, Coat, or perhaps a Woollen piece. You will use this as your base and work to remodel it using various versatile techniques that will be geared toward your individual skill set, carefully guided by Naomi.

You will need some sewing experience to get the best out of this workshop – basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine and hand sewing skills will help.

To book: Contact bookings@thecan.co.nz or call 06 835 9448. Numbers are limited so early booking is recommended! Pre-payment for the course secures your booking.

Tutor: Naomi Prowse

What to bring:
Your own machine and iron if possible, thread, scissors, a ‘quick unpick’, hand sewing needles, pins, a garment/s you want to use as the base, embellishments, motifs, beaded pieces, embroidery thread. Any fabrics you might want to add in; old ties, lace, braids, off-cuts or scraps of fabric, other garments to cut up, visual inspiration ie pictures of garments you like, patterns etc.

A gold coin for a cuppa and your lunch. A sense of adventure!
