Join DOC rangers for a stroll to a regenerating local wetland area and learn a little more about why these sites are so important for biodiversity.
This short walk and talk includes a tutorial on how to use the iNaturalist App – a tool you can use either on your smart phone or on your computer at home, to help you identify living things in the world around you! We’ll be trying to identify any bird, plant, fungi and invertebrate life along the way – so for those that have a smart phone we recommend downloading the iNaturalist App onto your phone before you arrive.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a smart phone or you’re a little unsure when it comes to Apps and computers – we can help you on the day or you can simply come along to enjoy the walk and take some photos!
This is a family friendly event and participants can expect to be walking for around 30 minutes to get to the wetlands, along an undulating, mostly flat track. Bring sensible walking shoes as well as water, hat and sunscreen if it’s a hot day. If you have binoculars we recommend you bring these as well. Plans will go ahead unless rain is heavy and persistent on the day.
This event is a partnership between the Rings Beach Wetland Project and the Department of Conservation. Meet at Lidgard Farm, 191 Bluff Road, Rings Beach, Kuaotunu. Follow the signs for parking.
