The Rotorua Chinese Community Association alongside Multicultural Rotorua and Rotorua Lakes Council look forward to sharing a fun evening of Chinese food, culture, dance, crafts and more at Te Manawa (corner of Hinemoa and Tutanekai Streets) from 5pm – 9pm on Thursday 7 February 2019.
The festival will take place alongside the regular Rotorua Night Market and celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar.
This year is the Year of the Pig, the twelfth of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac.
Celebrate Chinese cuisine with dumplings, pork buns, rice cakes and more while you watch traditional Lion dances and other cultural performances.
Learn your future for 2019 from a fortune cookie and take part in the red envelope tradition where stall holders will give children red envelopes – there will be great prizes up for grabs!
Chinese crafts and calligraphy will be available for children all evening.
Enjoy the festival atmosphere with red lanterns and couplets (red banners wishing good fortune and happiness) strung across Te Manawa.
