Imagine the world in the year 2118, a world covered in endless ocean and populated by new forms of marine life that adapt in response to the proliferation of plastic.
This is the strange and beautiful world conjured within artist George Nuku’s ‘Bottled Ocean’ exhibition, created in collaboration with the local community and school groups.
“In this new world, those who adapt, will survive…” – George Tamihana Nuku (Ngāti Hinemanu, Ngāi Te Upokoiri)
George Nuku and MTG Curator of Art Jess Mio talk about the effect of plastics in our oceans as part of Sea Week “Tiakina o Tātou Mōana – Care for our Seas”. Hear about the journey of plastic in the sea and how plastic has become an art medium of it’s own.
Meet in the MTG’s Main Foyer. Bookings via MTG’s Eventfinda page.
Wednesday 6 March, 2-4pm and Saturday 9 March 2019, 4-5pm at MTG Hawkes Bay, Tennyson Street Napier. This presentation will be interpreted in New Zealand Sign Language.
Donations are welcomed.
