Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

This course runs over eight Wednesday evenings 7 - 9 PM. Tutor: Karen Balmer.

In 2019, courses start:
15 May
31 July
16 October.

This course is for those who have already completed Sewing for Beginners or have basic sewing skills. You have the option of making an A-line or Pencil Skirt from New Look Pattern 6843. You'll need to buy materials and pre-wash fabric for this course so allow yourself at least a few days. You'll be developing your technical skills, and learning how to read and follow a pattern. You will complete your skirt, and if there is time at the end of the course, you are welcome to start a new project of your choice.

Materials and equipment to bring:
- New Look Pattern 6843 (all sizes from 8-18 are contained on the one pattern, as well as both styles).
- Fabric - you'll need to buy enough to suit your size and style: instructions are on the pattern or ask assistance at the store. No obvious stripes, checks or diagonals, and no stretchy fabrics - these are only for those with lots of experience. One way designs are fine, just ensure you buy twice your desired length plus 25cm. Pre wash and dry your fabric before classes start.
- 1 roll matching thread. Good quality eg Gutterman or Metrosene.
- 30 cm Iron on Interfacing.
- 23 cm invisible zip.
- 1 only 13mm button for waistband.

Our sewing room is equipped with domestic Bernina sewing machines which are available for you to use during class. You may prefer to bring your own machine to get familiar with its operation. For further information, please call the office on 5219623.

There are scissors (fabric and paper), measuring tapes etc in the sewing room to use during class, but we recommend that you bring your own kit as follows:
- Tailors Chalk or Fabric Marking Pen
- Pins
- Fabric Scissors
- Small Scissors or Snips
- Unpicker/Stitch Remover
- Your own Bobbin

We also offer evening and weekend beginner level sewing courses. Please check our website or Eventfinda for details.

Our mission is to provide quality affordable and accessible lifelong learning opportunities for our community.
