Concert two in the Shed Series 2019 is an eclectic and inventive selection of music in which the concept of ‘responses’ is explored by different composers.

Acclaimed Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki’s sonic masterpiece for strings Polymorphia is matched with Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood’s compelling 48 Responses to Polymorphia.

Penderecki and Greenwood worked together, and this will be the first time the NZSO has performed these works in the same concert.

Also featured will be Haydn’s Symphony No. 38 The Echo, Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, Leonie Holmes’ Elegy and a rare performance of Mexican composer Silvestre Revueltas’ intoxicating Homenaje a Federico García Lorca (Homage to Lorca).

This unique work for orchestra, which premiered just two months after the Spanish poet Lorca was murdered in 1936, is inspired by Mexican folk music.
