Waiheke’s largest event the Perpetual Guardian Sculpture on the Gulf will once again be held in summer 2019.

New dates, outside of the traditional peak season timing, were recently announced for this exhibition which will now open on Friday 1st March and run through till Sunday 24 March.

The 2019 exhibition sees an expanded sculpture experience extending from the Walkway up to the Waiheke Community Art Gallery, and Artworks environs.

The PGSOTG Maquettes and the Small Sculpture Showcase will be a feature of the exhibition programme at the Waiheke Community Art Gallery for a period of 5 weeks.

As in previous years, a feature of the outdoor sculpture exhibition is the experience of new work, not previously exhibited and for 2019 we are extending this philosophy to the Gallery exhibition to ensure this biennial Waiheke event remains at the forefront of sculpture exhibitions in New Zealand. The outstanding small scale sculptural works will provide a high quality gallery experience.

Also on display is “Tu Waka” by Waiheke Sculptor Chris Bailey, this specially commissioned bronze is a Limited Edition of 20 plus additional works by other well-known New Zealand sculptors.

Enjoy a “hands-on” experience by creating small ceramic water containers for Waiheke’s birds and insects – which once fired these will form an interconnected sculpture.

Additional large scale works are a feature of the Artworks Courtyard adjacent to the Gallery.
