Sounds Summer Slam Spearfishing Competition

The Stoned-Em Spearos in association with the South Island Spearfishing and Freediving Club invites you to the Sounds Summer Slam 2019 spearfishing competition.

The boundaries of this two-day event are the Marlborough Sounds area, which covers a massive 4000km2! Competitors can either shore dive or use a boat. The entry fee is $35 per diver.

All competitors must:
- Attend the briefing on Friday the 6th December at the Blenheim Dive Centre. Registration starts at 1700 and there is plenty of car parking behind the shop for cars and boats.
- Stay within competition boundaries
- Dive in pairs
- Display a dive flag on float
- Obey all fisheries closures (Blue cod,scallops), marine reserves (Maude Island, Long Island, Double Cove and Endeavour Inlet) and no fish zones (cable protection zone).
- Comply with local fisheries rules (minimum size limits)
- Fish must be gutted before weigh in

The years species list is:
- Butterfish
- Crayfish
- Flounder
- Gurnard
- John Dory
- Kingfish
- Tarakihi

A maximum of 2 fish of each species can be weighed in per team.

This is the biggest year yet with >$20,000 in prizes up for grabs. We have also officially launched the best ‘piece of ocean rubbish’ prize category for this years event. As the ocean is our playground we should be doing all we can to help clean it up.

The weigh-in will be held at our official venue Riverlands Roadhouse (3535 state highway 1) on Sunday 8th December. Weigh in starts at 2pm sharp and you must be lined up with your catch by 3pm. This will ensure we get the weigh-in completed in a timely manner. All fish must be gutted before weigh-in, penalties may apply if not.

Prize giving, BBQ, beers and refreshments to follow weigh in.

So now to the most important question that should be on everyone's mind... will it be your name getting etched onto the epic swordfish bill trophy and becoming part of history??
