Teretonga Park – January 19-20 2019.

The Speed Works Motorsport NZ Championship is back in town for its second weekend on the South Island and it’s bringing its most competitive and high profile national championships to the spectacular Teretonga track for the traditional January 19-20 fixture.

Topping the bill are the super-fast single seater racers of the Toyota Racing Series, with a field of up and coming international single seater drivers all aiming to be the next Max Verstappen, or in the case of the Kiwis racing – the next Brendon Hartley! This is the country’s only full international series and is extremely popular with the drivers aiming for the top of the sport.

The state-of-the art carbon fibre Toyota-powered racers are some of the fastest of their type in the motorsport world, and their speed around the short Teretonga track is truly remarkable. Stars are born on challenging tracks and the winners this weekend will be the best of the bunch. The pick of the weekend will be Sunday’s scrap for the Spirit of a Nation Trophy.

Making the trip to Teretonga once again for this top level motorsport weekend are the BNT V8s, our own V8 touring car championship which includes cars from Holden, Ford, Nissan and Toyota. It’s been attracting some big names from both sides of the pond in recent season, and you can expect a few up and coming Aussie racers to be sharpening their skills for the OZ racing season against some of the best Kiwi V8 racers around.

This season’s Toyota 86 Championship features the very best of our country’s up and coming racing talent, and they are all pitted against each other in these great little racing machines form Toyota. The championship will be in full swing by the time the pack gets onto the track at Teretonga this weekend and it will be all guns blazing in guaranteed nose-to-tail action.

The best of the South Island Porsche racers will do battle over this weekend too, with late model 991 racers slugging it out against some of the finest racing machinery in the history of the marque. 997, 996, 968, 911, 924 and 944 are all likely to be represented.

If flat six Porsche motors aren’t your thing – then what about the screaming rotary engines of the South Island Mazda racing series? Ever popular with fans and still as exciting on and off the track as they ever were, the RX7s are accompanied by the newer model RX8s these days in this flame-spitting and superfast series.

South Island Formula 1600 adds a little more single seater flavour to the big meeting, with some of the great marques in decades of Formula Ford 1600 racing represented in the field, right up to the present day advanced racers that still are one of the first racing categories chosen by many single seater racers after they switch from their karting careers to circuit racing. The list of World Champions who started in F1600 is simply too big to list, and that tells you all you need to know about how competitive any series like this is!

The Rush Hour racers will be back for the second weekend in a row after Highlands, with the spectacular mix of GT3 cars, V8s and a host of Porsches making up the field for a one hour, winner takes all mini endurance clash.
