The summer season comes to a close this weekend for many of the New Zealand motorsport championships, and that means the biggest winners of the year will be crowned right here at Hampton Downs.

There’s something for everyone this weekend in a mammoth two days of racing action. V8s, turbos, rotaries, VTECs..even VWs! Modern machines, icons of the past and brutal prototypes all line up for this Speed Work Motorsport NZ Championship finals weekend.

Top of the bill is the BNT V8s, and this category alone has produced some great champions over the years, many of whom made it successfully into Supercars or other major racing series elsewhere. There are amazing machines from Holden, Ford, Toyota and Nissan in the championship, as well as two classes of racing – Class 1 and Class 2 – and the track always produces some tight action in the category. It’ll go down to the wire – guaranteed.

The Toyota 86 Championship also reaches its climax for the season this weekend and with one of the most competitive championships in recent history for New Zealand motorsport behind it, whoever secures the title this weekend will be a very worthy winner indeed.

The NZ V8 Utes will also celebrate its 2018-2019 champion this weekend at Hampton Downs, and it too has seen its fair share of dramatic moments at the North Waikato track over the years. Expect a few more twists and turns this weekend form the Fords and Holdens as they reach the finish line of their series.

It’s also the penultimate round of the Pirelli Porsche Championship and these cars are truly amazing to watch around the twists and turns of Hampton Downs. Current generation 991 machines, 997, 996, 944 and a few other Porsche racing models will all be in action.

For the fans of the big racers from the past, the meeting welcomes back the ENZED Central Muscle car fleet and they will be a hugely popular addition to a very big race meeting. All the old favourites are there, adding their unique blend of nostalgia and racing to the meeting. Unmissable!

Completing the line-up of racing machinery and action for the huge final weekend are the TradeZone GTRNZ cars – with their two grids of absolutely crazy, anything-goes, machines; the NEXEN TYRE Pro 7 Mazda racing series is back on the Speed Works card for the weekend with it’s raucous, screaming rotary monsters and Hi-Q Components Formula First is also on the bill for its penultimate round of the season. The Motul Honda Cup is a guest class this weekend for Honda fans too.

As if that mouth-watering selection of machines wasn’t enough, this meeting has even more with a Rush Hour clash on the Saturday evening of the meeting giving a ‘winner-takes-all’ opportunity to some of the best drivers and machines of the weekend as they take on other bespoke endurance and GT racing machinery.
