SCAPE Public Art brings artists to this Christchurch-debut show at the Merivale pop-up art gallery.

Studio 125 Gallery Exhibition continues to provide a Sustainable Funding Model for the Arts.

Australasian based artists Kevin Osmond and Bridie Gillman will lead an eclectic and impressive list of exhibitors as SCAPE, with support from Neville and Heather Brown, re-opens its much-loved Merivale pop-up Studio 125 Gallery. The May-July exhibition will offer collectors and supporters a unique opportunity to attend and invest in sculptures and artworks - while supporting public art in the city.

British born and Auckland based artist Kevin Osmond transforms seemingly mundane components and methods through meticulous repetition. The viewer is offered an escape from everyday life into a mesmerising and idyllic universe.

In this show, titled Transition, he uses the medium of embossed wood block prints on paper investigating natural and celestial phenomena within a circular print format in a range of sumptuous primary colours and sizes. Colour and texture via embossed lines within the printed paper are employed to explore an optical element of 3 dimensions rising outward from the 2-dimensional format.

Bridie Gillman is an emerging artist based in Brisbane, Australia. In Before the leaves turn, Gillman shows us a new colour palette to her existing body of work. There is a three-part theme throughout all her practice: place, experience of place and memory of that experience. Gillman then translates these into seductive, abstract, expressive paintings. This series, comprised of oil and gouache on canvas, has stemmed from her thinking about the Wanaka area.

Studio 125 Gallery is a partnership between Heather and Neville Brown and SCAPE Public Art (a charitable trust) for the promotion and advancement of public art in Christchurch. Artist and Philanthropist Heather Brown first opened her Merivale studio to the public in March 2017 as a pop-up gallery, to promote and fundraise for public art in the city; this will be the gallery’s fifth collaborative showcase of artists.

Everyone is welcome!
